Ingredients

Scale
  • 400 grams spaghetti
  • 300 grams ground beef
  • 200 grams ground pork
  • 100 grams breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 50 grams parmesan cheese, grated
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 700 milliliters tomato passata
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Fresh basil, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil for the spaghetti.
  2. In a large bowl, gently mix ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, parmesan, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper until just combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into evenly sized meatballs about 4 centimeters wide.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and brown the meatballs on all sides, then remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, sauté the chopped onion until soft and translucent.
  6. Add tomato passata and dried oregano, stir well, then return the browned meatballs to the sauce.
  7. Simmer gently for 20 minutes until the meatballs are fully cooked and the sauce thickens slightly.
  8. Cook spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente, then drain.
  9. Toss spaghetti with some of the sauce, plate, and top with meatballs and extra sauce.
  10. Garnish with fresh basil and additional grated parmesan before serving.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the meatball mixture to keep them tender.
  • Brown the meatballs well for deeper flavor before simmering.
  • Salt the pasta water generously for best taste.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days.
