This Onion Bun Burger is a fun, creative twist on a classic burger where thick grilled onion slices replace traditional buns. Juicy plant based patties, melted cheese, fresh lettuce, tomato, and creamy sauce come together for a flavorful, low carb, and satisfying meal that is both hearty and unique.

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, cut into thick slices
  • 2 plant based burger patties (about 120 grams each)
  • 2 slices cheese (about 40 grams)
  • 4 lettuce leaves, washed
  • 4 tomato slices
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons burger sauce or mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium heat.
  2. Brush onion slices with olive oil and place them on the hot pan.
  3. Grill onions on both sides until soft and lightly caramelized, then set aside.
  4. Season plant based patties with salt and black pepper.
  5. Cook patties in the same pan until browned and heated through.
  6. Place cheese slices on top of patties and allow them to melt.
  7. Assemble the burger by placing one grilled onion slice as the base.
  8. Add lettuce, patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, and sauce.
  9. Top with another grilled onion slice and press gently before serving.
