Ingredients
Scale
4 medium fresh pears, peeled and halved with cores removed
3 cups water (720 milliliters)
1/3 cup honey (about 110 grams)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon lemon juice (about 15 milliliters)
Instructions
Place a medium saucepan on the stove.
Combine water, honey, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and lemon juice in the saucepan. Stir gently.
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
Carefully add the peeled pear halves into the simmering liquid.
Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes, turning pears occasionally, until tender when pierced with a knife.
Remove pears with a slotted spoon. Simmer the syrup a few extra minutes to slightly thicken if desired.
Spoon warm syrup over pears and serve immediately or chill before serving.
Notes
Use firm but ripe pears to help them hold their shape.
Do not let the liquid boil rapidly, keep it at a gentle simmer.
