A rich and juicy caramelized onion burger stacked with a perfectly seared beef patty, sweet golden onions, melted cheddar cheese, fresh lettuce, tomato slices, and creamy mayonnaise on a toasted brioche bun. A restaurant style burger made easily at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80 percent lean)
  • 2 large yellow onions, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 brioche buns
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 4 tomato slices
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium low heat and add butter and olive oil.
  2. Add sliced onions and cook slowly for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally until deep golden and caramelized.
  3. Season ground beef with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder, then form into 4 equal patties.
  4. Heat a separate pan over medium high heat and cook burger patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side until fully cooked.
  5. Add cheddar cheese on top of patties during the last minute of cooking and let it melt.
  6. Toast brioche buns lightly in a pan until golden.
  7. Spread mayonnaise on the bottom buns, then layer lettuce, tomato, beef patty, and caramelized onions.
  8. Top with the bun and serve immediately while hot and juicy.

Notes

  • Cook onions low and slow for the best sweetness and depth of flavor.
  • Do not press burgers while cooking to keep them juicy.
  • Let patties rest for a few minutes before assembling.
