Ingredients

Scale
  • 1. Pretzel dough – homemade or store-bought
  • 2. Cooked steak – diced into small pieces
  • 3. Shredded cheddar cheese – or cheese blend
  • 4. Baking soda – for pretzel boiling solution
  • 5. Water – for boiling
  • 6. Egg – beaten for egg wash
  • 7. Coarse salt – for sprinkling
  • 8. Olive oil – for cooking steak if raw
  • 9. Seasonings – salt, pepper, garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pretzel dough according to your recipe or package instructions and let it rise until doubled in size.
  2. If using raw steak, season it with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, then cook in olive oil over medium-high heat until just done. Let cool and dice into small pieces.
  3. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Divide the dough into small portions. Flatten each piece and place a bit of steak and shredded cheese in the center.
  5. Pinch the edges of the dough to seal and roll into a ball.
  6. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add baking soda. Carefully drop each dough ball into the water for 20–30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon.
  7. Place the boiled dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  8. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until deep golden brown.
  9. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce, such as cheese sauce or spicy mustard.

Notes

  • Use leftover steak to save time and enhance flavor.
  • Experiment with cheese blends for a richer taste.
  • Ensure dough balls are well sealed to prevent cheese leakage during baking.
  • For extra flavor, brush pretzel bites with melted butter after baking.
