These soft date squares are the perfect blend of buttery oat crumble and sweet, gooey date filling. A nostalgic dessert that’s easy to make and even easier to love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups chopped dates
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×9 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan, combine chopped dates, water, and granulated sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring often, until the mixture becomes thick and spreadable. Let it cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Add melted butter and mix until crumbly.
  4. Press half of the oat mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan. Spread the cooled date filling evenly over the base.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining oat mixture over the date layer and press gently.
  6. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  7. Let the bars cool completely before lifting out and slicing into squares.

Notes

  • Cool completely before slicing for clean edges.
  • Use Medjool dates for best results.
