Soft, lightly nutty bread rolls made with barley flour and simple pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup barley flour
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet.
  2. Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast and let foam.
  3. Add olive oil, salt, barley flour, and all-purpose flour.
  4. Knead until smooth and let rise until doubled.
  5. Shape into rolls and place on baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes until lightly golden.
  7. Cool slightly and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use warm, not hot water for yeast.
  • Do not overbake to keep rolls soft.
