- 8 oz smoked Gouda cheese, shredded
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (divided)
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Dipping Sauce: 1/4 cup Dijon mustard, 2 tbsp honey, 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- Shape shredded smoked Gouda into small balls (about 1 inch). Chill for 20 minutes to firm up.
- Prepare three shallow bowls: one with 1/2 cup flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with panko mixed with paprika and salt.
- Dredge each cheese ball first in flour, then egg, then panko until coated.
- In a deep skillet or fryer, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry fritters in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- For the sauce, whisk together Dijon mustard, honey, and balsamic vinegar.
- Serve fritters hot with dipping sauce on the side.
Notes
- Keep fritters warm in a 200°F oven if making large batches.
- Add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the breading for extra heat.
- These are best served fresh but can be reheated in an air fryer.
