Soft, fluffy pull-apart potato bread topped with toasted sesame seeds, baked until golden and tender with a rich, buttery crumb.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup mashed potato, freshly boiled and mashed
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons white sesame seeds
  • 1 egg mixed with 1 tablespoon milk for egg wash

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm milk and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add mashed potato, melted butter, egg, and salt. Gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Let dough rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Divide into equal balls and arrange in the prepared pan. Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes.
  7. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle sesame seeds evenly over the top.
  8. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Brush lightly with melted butter after baking and allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure mashed potato is smooth and free of lumps for best texture.
  • If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil during baking.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
