Soft and fluffy onion sesame bread baked to golden perfection, topped with sweet sautéed onions and nutty sesame seeds. A comforting pull-apart bread that pairs beautifully with soups, salads, or enjoyed warm on its own.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and lightly grease a rectangular baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add olive oil and salt, then gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. In a small pan, sauté the finely chopped onion in a little olive oil until soft and slightly sweet. Let cool.
  7. Divide the risen dough into equal rolls and arrange them in the prepared baking dish.
  8. Sprinkle the sautéed onions and sesame seeds evenly over the top.
  9. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Brush lightly with olive oil while warm, allow to cool slightly, then serve.

Notes

  • Allow the dough to rise fully for the fluffiest texture.
  • Lightly toast sesame seeds beforehand for a deeper nutty flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat in a 300°F oven for about 10 minutes for best texture.
