A fun and fizzy homemade candy made with Kool-Aid, chewy licorice texture, and a surprising pop of candy crackle—perfect for parties, gifts, or nostalgic snacking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup corn syrup
  • ⅓ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons unflavored gelatin
  • 2 packets Kool-Aid powder (any flavor)
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup popping candy

Instructions

  1. Line a baking tray or dish with parchment paper and lightly grease.
  2. In a saucepan, whisk sugar, corn syrup, and water over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Stir in Kool-Aid powder and salt. Sprinkle gelatin over the top and let bloom for 1–2 minutes, then stir to dissolve.
  3. Keep your pan warm and stir continuously. Add the flour gradually, whisking to avoid lumps. Cook 2–3 more minutes until thickened.
  4. Pour mixture into prepared tray. Use a spatula to spread evenly. Let cool at room temperature for 1 hour, then chill for 30 minutes to firm up.
  5. Once set, cut into ropes, twists, or shapes using a sharp knife or kitchen scissors.
  6. Sprinkle or roll the licorice pieces in popping candy just before serving.
  7. Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container (without popping candy) until ready to enjoy for best results.

Notes

  • Add popping candy just before eating to keep the pop fresh.
  • Use different Kool-Aid flavors for a colorful batch.
  • Cool completely before cutting for clean shapes.
