Homemade McGriddle: The Breakfast Sandwich You’ve Been Dreaming Of

This Homemade McGriddle is the ultimate sweet-and-savory breakfast sandwich, featuring fluffy pancake buns, melty cheese, a sausage patty, and a drizzle of maple syrup. It’s a fast-food favorite made better at home!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pancake mix
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup (plus more for drizzling)
  • 4 breakfast sausage patties
  • 4 slices American or cheddar cheese
  • 4 large eggs
  • Butter or oil, for cooking

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix pancake mix, water, and maple syrup until smooth. Let sit for 2–3 minutes.
  2. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and lightly grease. Pour small rounds of batter (about 3 inches wide) and cook until bubbles form, then flip and cook until golden. Set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, cook sausage patties until browned and fully cooked. Set aside.
  4. Crack eggs into greased rings (or free-form) and cook until yolks are just set. Optionally flip for over-easy style.
  5. Assemble the McGriddle: pancake, sausage patty, slice of cheese, cooked egg, and another pancake. Drizzle with maple syrup if desired.

  • Use silicone egg rings to make perfectly round eggs and pancakes.
  • Swap sausage with bacon or a plant-based patty for variety.
  • Pancakes can be made ahead and frozen for quick assembly.
