A Dutch Baby is a fluffy, golden pancake with crispy edges, topped with powdered sugar, fresh berries, and syrup. Perfect for breakfast or brunch!

Ingredients

  • Eggs: 3 large
  • Milk: 1 cup
  • Flour: 1/2 cup
  • Sugar: 1 tablespoon
  • Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon
  • Salt: 1/4 teaspoon
  • Butter: 3 tablespoons
  • Powdered sugar: For dusting
  • Fresh berries (optional): 1/2 cup
  • Syrup (optional): For drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: Place a 10-inch cast-iron skillet or oven-safe pan in the oven and preheat to 425°F.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, flour, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  3. Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: Once the oven and pan are hot, carefully remove the skillet and add the butter, swirling it around until it’s melted and the pan is coated.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Pour the batter into the hot pan and immediately return it to the oven.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the Dutch Baby is puffed up and golden brown.
  6. Finishing Touches: Remove the Dutch Baby from the oven and dust with powdered sugar.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve with fresh berries, syrup, or whipped cream for a truly indulgent treat.

Notes

  • Don’t open the oven while baking to prevent the pancake from deflating.
  • If you want a richer flavor, try adding cinnamon or nutmeg to the batter.
  • For a savory twist, add cheese and herbs to the batter and top with sautéed mushrooms.
