Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 medium apple, about 150 grams, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup chopped dates, about 40 grams
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place a medium saucepan on the stove over medium heat.
  2. Add the rolled oats, water, milk, diced apple, chopped dates, ground cinnamon, and salt to the saucepan.
  3. Stir gently to combine and prevent clumping as the mixture begins to warm.
  4. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring frequently.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring often, until the oats are tender and the porridge is thick and creamy.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in honey or maple syrup if using. Let it rest for 2 minutes to thicken slightly.
  7. Spoon into bowls and serve warm.

Notes

  • Stir frequently to prevent sticking and to achieve a creamy texture.
  • If the porridge becomes too thick, add a splash of warm milk to loosen it.
