Tender baked apples filled with rich melted dark chocolate, crunchy nuts, and warm cinnamon, creating a cozy dessert that is simple, comforting, and naturally sweet.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium firm apples, about 200 grams each, cored and halved
  • 120 grams dark chocolate, about 70 percent cocoa, chopped
  • 40 grams chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, about 25 grams
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, about 28 grams, melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius, which is 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the chopped dark chocolate, chopped nuts, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract until evenly combined.
  3. Place the halved and cored apples cut side up in the prepared baking dish. Brush them lightly with the melted butter.
  4. Spoon the chocolate mixture evenly into the center of each apple half, pressing gently so it stays in place.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork and the chocolate is melted and glossy.
  6. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for about 5 minutes so the filling thickens slightly.
  7. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or yogurt.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith so they hold their shape while baking.
  • Chop the chocolate finely to ensure smooth melting inside the apples.
  • Lightly toast the nuts before mixing for deeper flavor.
  • Spoon some of the baking juices over the apples before serving for extra richness.
