A rich and gooey chocolate lava mug cake made in minutes, with a soft fluffy edge and a molten chocolate center, perfect for a quick single serving dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. In a microwave safe mug, combine flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and baking powder.
  2. Add milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients.
  3. Stir well until a smooth batter forms with no dry streaks.
  4. Fold in 1 tablespoon of chocolate chips into the batter.
  5. Place the remaining 1 tablespoon of chocolate chips in the center of the batter to create the molten core.
  6. Microwave on high for 60 to 80 seconds until the edges are set but the center remains soft.
  7. Let it rest for 1 minute before serving to allow the lava center to settle slightly.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy directly from the mug.

Notes

  • Microwave times may vary depending on wattage, start with 60 seconds and add more time if needed.
  • Do not overcook or the center will lose its molten texture.
  • For extra richness, add a small square of chocolate in the center instead of chips.
