A silky, rich chocolate cream dessert that’s quick to make and perfect for any occasion. Made with pantry staples and topped with whipped cream, it’s an indulgent treat that never fails to satisfy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups whole milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Whipped cream (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together cocoa powder, sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
  2. Gradually add ½ cup of milk to form a smooth paste, then whisk in the remaining milk.
  3. Pour the mixture into a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly with a whisk.
  4. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the mixture thickens to a pudding consistency.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract until fully melted and combined.
  6. Pour into serving bowls or ramekins.
  7. Let cool slightly if serving warm, or refrigerate for at least 2 hours for a chilled dessert.
  8. Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings before serving if desired.

Notes

  • Whisk constantly while cooking to prevent lumps and ensure smooth texture.
  • Use whole milk for the richest flavor and creaminess.
  • Press plastic wrap directly on the surface while chilling to prevent a skin from forming.
  • For a flavor twist, add orange zest, peppermint extract, or instant espresso powder.
