Golden, chewy pretzel bites stuffed with melty cheddar cheese. These soft and salty treats are perfect for snacking, parties, or game day gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese cubes
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Coarse sea salt for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Stir in melted butter and salt. Add flour gradually until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for 5–7 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  4. Punch down the dough and divide into 24 pieces. Flatten each, place a cheese cube inside, and seal tightly.
  5. Boil a pot of water with baking soda. Drop each bite in for 20 seconds, then transfer to baking sheet.
  6. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  7. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use block cheese instead of shredded for a better melt.
  • Don’t skip the baking soda bath, it creates the authentic pretzel texture.
  • Freeze unbaked bites for future snacking — just thaw, boil, and bake.
