Fluffy, buttery, golden buttermilk biscuits that rise high and flake perfectly. Ideal for breakfast, brunch, or a cozy dinner side.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk, cold
  • Melted butter, for brushing tops

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
  4. Make a well in the center and pour in the cold buttermilk. Stir gently until just combined.
  5. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a rectangle. Fold in half and repeat 3 to 4 times.
  6. Pat dough to 1-inch thickness, cut with biscuit cutter, and place biscuits on baking sheet, touching slightly.
  7. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown on top.
  8. Brush hot biscuits with melted butter and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use cold ingredients for the flakiest layers.
  • Do not twist the biscuit cutter when cutting dough.
  • Chill the shaped biscuits for 10 minutes before baking for extra rise.
