Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh blueberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees C.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Pour in the buttermilk and gently stir until just combined.
  4. Fold in the fresh blueberries carefully to avoid crushing them.
  5. Pour the melted butter into a 9×9 inch baking dish, making sure it evenly coats the bottom.
  6. Transfer the dough directly into the buttered dish and spread it evenly with a spatula.
  7. Use a knife to lightly score the dough into 9 squares before baking.
  8. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the top is golden brown and the edges are crisp.
  9. Allow the biscuits to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the dough to keep the biscuits tender.
  • If using frozen blueberries, add them straight from the freezer without thawing.
  • For extra brightness, add 1 teaspoon lemon zest to the dough.
